Photography using a mobile phone: Top tips and discover how to take a professional LinkedIn profile picture:

A very useful session, having held photography as a great interest of mine, I found this talk most captivating. Although camerawork is mainly a personal endeavour, I have previously incorporated the medium into university projects. So, learning new improvements is most beneficial to my progression.

The most academically themed informative I learnt through this talk would be the newfound styles of photography such as ‘Leading Lines’ and ‘Frame through a frame’. Although I had already made use of these exercises, I wasn’t informed on their names. With this gained knowledge, I shall be able to refer to such, in up and coming modules, increasing my professional output.

As well as this, I learnt ways to improve my existing LinkedIn Profile, knowing it is the main platform used in order to network in the industry, it is within my best interest to increase my employability through this. An example of tips given were to wear ‘work’ clothing in your profile picture and to look approachable (smile).

(Notes from the Session)

Gaining work experience: the options:

Knowing work experience is one of the main attributes that future employers look for, I attended this workshop with hopes to explore my options. I was surprised at the vast array that featured under the ‘work experience’ category. These include internships, volunteering, part time jobs, micro placements, freelancing etc. As well as sharing potential prospects, we were shown the benefits of attending them, of which there are many. Now having the options presented before me, I am excited to begin seeking out these opportunities for myself.

Vision Boards:

Perhaps one of my favourite graduate + sessions I attended, the Vision Board talk taught us how to manifest our dreams and strive towards our goals. Instead of an increased worry when thinking of the future, we were instead faced with ambition and excitement with an understanding of time progression, I found it to be a most refreshing outlook to life. Although I had created vision boards in the past, none to the specific nature and to the success as the ones described to me. I have already began making a new one!

Finding your Funny Bone:

A very entertaining presentation! In my ‘Skills Audit’ one of my goals for the future was to become more comfortable with presenting, I joined this session in hopes that this would set me on the right track to achieving this. I hope to incorporate the skills learnt in this workshop into future presentations to not only spike interest, but to make me more comfortable in this situation also.

Presentation Skills In a Nutshell:

I went into the session with the same intention as the ‘Finding your Funny Bone’ presentation — to gain confidence when presenting. Not only were tips shared on presenting as an art in itself, but also, we were told about what a presentation should consist of in order to be successful. These include pictures to summarise, a maximum of five bullet points and a structure of an overview, problem and solution, outcomes and a Q&A. I intend to take on this advice when approaching future presentations.

Critical Reflection In a Nutshell:

Though I have always passed on my critical reflections, I end up missing the mark somehow, bringing my overall grade down. With hopes to improve my writing, I attended this session. There were many useful tips conveyed throughout this presentation, the main insight being a structural plan. Feeling as though within my writing I miss out on such points, I shall be sure to furthermore structure my work around this plan.
